Gjuricaj Basilica

Early Christian basilica (4th century). Foundations are well preserved.

Basilica in Gjuricaj. In its preserved state it measures 47 X 20 m. The church is of the basic type, with three Nephites. At a later date (VIII century), a small hat was adapted inside the central nave. The monument preserves a relatively good part of the walls, floors and some marble architectural details. The artifacts discovered in this Basel are dated to the 4th-3rd century BC, as well as the 5th-6th century AD. The church is built of stone masonry and 5 rows of brick bound with limestone. On the floor of the building are found architectural details of marble such as; columns (fragmented) bases, capitals, imposts, iconostasis tiles and other relief decoration tiles. Artifacts have also been discovered in the Hellenistic period, in the first centuries of our era, as well as in the Middle and Late Middle Ages.
