I went here on my own to see a game (KO 17.10 on a Saturday). The bus journey from Montserrat was smooth and dropped me near the stadium. It was then easy to purchase a ticket (750 pesos) at a white ticket booth outside the ground. The stadium is very exposed so if you’re at a day-time match and it’s sunny bring hat etc. After the match I got the bus back into town from the main road to the Southwest of the stadium. This took a while (around 25 mins) as many buses drove past without stopping as they were full. There were a lot of people around also waiting for the bus so I felt completely safe despite warnings about the area I had read.

If you want to witness some of the best supporters in the world, you have to go to the "Nuevo Gasómetro", the home stadium for San Lorenzo de Almagro. Try going when the local team is playing an international match or against one of the other 5 big clubs in Argentina (Boca, River, Independiente, Racing, Huracán). But don't go alone as football matches are tricky if you don't know the codes and also the stadium surrounding area is dangerous for a tourist walking alone! If you don't have any local to take you, ask in a San Lorenzo online forum if you can join a group. Or ask me! i will be pleased to go with you.
