Wallace's Monument, Ayrshire

Beautiful monument completed around 1857 hidden away at the back of a farm. Its a good walk up to it, can be driven but very narrow road all the way up. Great 360 views of countryside when up at the monument. There are some lovely words displayed paying tribute to William Wallace. Public can't access inside the monument. If your nearby definitely worth a visit.

Beautiful building in awesome setting. Pity you can't see inside but the scenery around it is great. Grass a bit long though

Random location next to a farmhouse but worth a visit. Recommend parking at the bottom of the hill and walking up. Views are lovely aswell once your up there.

Nice monument to William Wallace, a bit rundown looking with smashed windows and sitting in an overgrown field, could do with some TLC to bring it back to its former glory. Shame.

The views are amazing on a sunny day, you can see the whole of Ayrshire at a 360° angle. Local legend has it, that William Wallace and his men stood at this location after locking sleeping English soldiers in a barn in Ayr, then set it on fire in a revenge attack. Watched the barn (baracks) burning in the distance from here and said the Barns of Ayr burnweil. According to Blind Harry, a number of Scottish barons of Ayrshire were killed by hanging, including Sir Ronald Crawford Sheriff of Ayr, Sir Bryce Blair of Blair, Sir Neil Montgomerie of Cassillis, Crystal of Seton, and Sir Hugh Montgomerie. In revenge, William Wallace burned the barracks with the English inside.
